Winding banks of the Madison

Centuries deep-
Ancestral
Migratory
Sacred!
I am here for the
Big blue sky
And the thundering clouds
I am here for the winds
That carry the winged ones
And the willow that nourish the 4 leggeds
I am here for the
Howl of the Wolf
And the mad cackle of the Coyote
I am here for the hoot
Of the Great Horned
And the majestic flight
Of the Great Blue
I am here for the Trumpeter's song
The Raven's caw
And the Sandhill's pre-historic call
I am here for the Blue birds
That court above me
I am here for the Osprey- wings sailing talon's ready
I am here for the cry
That pierces Big Sky
Of Eagle, Hawk and Falcon
I am here for singing chickadees
And for the trees
Aspen- Fir- Ponderosa
I am here for
Bobcat tracks and Grizzly tracks
Whose powers are with-in me
I am here for family
And community
For Unity
And visions of something different
I am here to stand
With this beauty
And look ignorance in the eye
I am here to defy
Centuries of oppression
Because deep with-in me
I know that this
Is not the way-
I am here for the INDIGENOUS
Who 500 years later
Have yet to have a place
At this table
Of liberty and justice for ALL!
I am here because I have heard the call
Of the Elk, the Deer and the Moose
I am here to tear down
The noose
Of absurdity
I am here for my son
And the sons of my friends
And the daughters of those I don't even know
I am here for the bellow
Of the Mighty Bull
And the pregnant Cow
And the calf who is yet to be born
I am here for the Buffalo
The Wild and Free
p.s. I am here for the bull who walked out into the middle
of the road to stop a driving car ,relieve himself and go back
to his spot in the grass |
