No buffalo have been killed by hunters since our last Update. Temperatures have dropped into the negatives, snow has fallen, Hebgen Lake is now frozen, and the few wild buffalo that are in Montana are keeping themselves safe from hunters for now. As we promised last week, we have some very important Take Action items for you on two major threats to wild buffalo. Visit the links below to take action and to learn more. BFC has also just produced a new video from our footage of the recent Interagency Bison Management Plan meetings. See and hear for yourself what the agencies are saying. Please do what you can to share our alerts and video widely!

Montana Plans to Kill More Buffalo
In a spiteful move before a meeting of the Interagency Bison Management Plan, the Montana Department of Livestock (DOL) revealed shocking plans to harass, capture, vaccinate and slaughter wild, migratory buffalo in the Hebgen Basin, west of Yellowstone National Park.

The DOL appears determined to proceed despite strong objections and opposition from the National Park Service, Nez Perce, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, InterTribal Buffalo Council, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The only IBMP agency supporting the DOL's move was the federal livestock overseer, USDA's Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service, who is funding the DOL's project with your federal tax dollars.

Take action to stop these plans! Contact Congress and Montana Governor Steve Bullock.

* Volunteers Needed! Join BFC on the Front Lines!

With so many buffalo under the gun, and news from the agencies that capture and slaughter are imminent, we are in great need of volunteers to help document the killing and provide outreach and education to hunters.

Please, if you have even a week or two to spare, we would be grateful for your help. We have a great crew, and the small numbers create a fun, close-knit spirit. If you feel you can help out, please email or call our volunteer coordinators ASAP at: volunteer@buffalofieldcampaign.org, or 406-646-0070.
