| Hunting
best solution to park bison dilemma

After
reading the article, the Yellowstone Park bison situation
seems far from bleak as stated in the headlines. The herd
is at the highest number in a decade. A sustainable harvest
by a responsible conservation group, our state hunters,
is the best solution. Look at all the positives. Bison
being available once again for a hunting season. Control
of a contagious disease, helping our ranching community.
Revenue income for a state agency through licensing fees.
Possible food donations to the Food Bank from Sportsman
against Hunger. Use of a resource that would otherwise
be lost to disease and starvation.
We need to be careful of listening to extremist groups
who get headlines based on the musings of their self appointed
"experts." It is obvious that their goal is
to obstruct and not find positive solutions.
As a conservation group, hunters have spent, through their
licensing fees, more than any other group on wildlife
conservation. The public needs to support the responsible
groups, not the loudest ones.
