LTE: Maybe congressman would like bison of his own
Bozeman Daily Chronicle 3/28/07
Just a simple suggestion in reference to Rep. Nick Rahall's request (demand) that we stop the "murder" of the Yellowstone bison. If you look at all of the money we are spending to try to regulate the number of bison in the Yellowstone area, it might be cheaper just to load up the surplus bison, especially those with brucellosis since he doesn't believe that this is a threat to cattle, and ship them to his home state of West Virginia. They could be placed in the Monongahela National Forest and then let West Virginia worry about them. That should satisfy his ego that those from back east know more how to handle the problems in Montana than the people who live here.

At the same time, maybe we should consider the wisdom of our New York friends and do them a favor with our surplus wolves. We were "promised" by our friends in the big city with their superior wisdom of how we should manage our area, that 10 breeding pairs of wolves would be the goal of wolf recovery in our area. Since we are well above that number, we should capture the excess and ship them to Central Park in New York City. Every argument that was presented for their introduction into our area would apply as well for Central Park.

We would be doing these people a favor in giving them an opportunity to exercise their superior wisdom as well as mitigating some of the problems they have caused here.
