Before coming to Buffalo Field Campaign, I knew I had a strong passion for the environment, and advocating for species that are the most susceptible to human actions. While I knew the situation in Montana for bison was not ideal, it was not until after working in the field that I realized how much our national mammal needs our help.

I had never seen a wild bison before volunteering for BFC. It was extremely eye-opening seeing how intelligent, loving, and playful these mammals truly are and the importance they hold in the region both to the environment, and to Indigenous tribes. Learning about the inequalities and misconceptions that challenge wild bison in Yellowstone not only upset me, but it caused my sentiment towards these animals to grow; this has fueled my desire to work in environmental policy, where it is my goal to ensure that wildlife, such as the Yellowstone bison, get the respect and proper management they deserve.

I am grateful for my time spent at BFC and for the opportunity to help protect our national mammal. One of the things I am most thankful for is the people I was introduced to while working for the campaign. The staff and volunteers at BFC reminded me why difficult battles are worth fighting, and their commitment has inspired me to continue my desire to pursue a career in environmental protection.
