Buffalo Field Campaign is proud to announce its partnership with the Conference on Civil and Human Rights and the Declaration for American Democracy Coalition in this year's celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This is a crucial moment for the sanctity of United States voting rights, and we must all make our voices heard.

bfc mlk call to action

In partnership and in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, we amplify this call to action to all our supporters. We are demanding that Congress pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

The Freedom to Vote Act would protect American elections from voter suppression, gerrymandering, and strengthen our democracy and promote racial justice and equity for all Americans. It would help fix our current political campaign financial system and prevent restrictive voting laws from allowing us to take part in fair and free elections.

The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act aims to restore and strengthen aspects of the 1965 Voting Rights act as well as stop the disenfranchisement of Communities of Color, low-income individuals and families, people with disabilities, the elderly, the LGBTQ community, Native Americans, refugees, and all those who face barriers to the ballot box. The voting populace are now at a greater risk of discrimination than when the Voting Rights Act was passed more than fifty years ago.

The decision Congress makes over these laws must reflect upon decades of progress made for equal voting rights to all Americans. Get involved and find local MLK events happening near you!
