Beltaine Greetings! May is the thrust of wild buffalo calving season, and a few more calves have been spotted here in the Hebgen Basin, with heavily pregnant females promising that this is just the beginning of another wonderful calving season. Because of your unwavering support of BFC over these many years, the year-round habitat you helped us gain for the buffalo is being peacefully enjoyed by them. Montana Department of Livestock agents drive around looking for buffalo, but where they are currently roaming, they can not be touched. Patrols are still busy along the highways, helping buffalo safely reach calving grounds, which is about the only human-caused threat right now. This week, we want to share some images of the few calves who have so far arrived. We promise that as the weeks go by, we’ll have more and better photos of these “little red dogs” to share with you. In the meantime, there are two important things you can do to help these baby buffalo and their families: A) Sign up for our new American Bison E-Newsletter which will help inform you on making effective comments to list wild, migratory buffalo as a Species of Conservation Concern on the Gallatin National Forest, and, B) This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to 1) thank him for vetoing HB 132, and urging him to veto HB 332, which landed on his desk yesterday. The buffalo and BFC have the best supporters ever! Thank you for all you do to keep us in the field with the buffalo and act on their behalf!
Enjoy these photos of the next wild buffalo generation who are all new additions to the imperiled Central herd!
