Fifteen years ago, we decided it was time to celebrate Wild Bison Calving season. Enough of the hazing, the capture, the slaughter...our last wild migratory buffalo calve on the Horse Butte Peninsula and it IS AMAZING! It is a rarity...a unique opportunity to be in community with our sacred buffalo on our public land!
And so, we began to offer “Free Coffee, Free Cookies, Free the Buffalo~Wild Bison Calving Season”. We hang banners, bake cookies, brew coffee and celebrate the New Life that our wild buffalo bring each spring.
This year we spoke to over 25 people; local residents, a family from Bozeman, a family from China, women from Big Sky, a hunter. We spread the word of the glory of the day: Mother’s Day and wild baby bison are free to roam the Butte!
What have we achieved? Buffalo Field Campaign has stood with the buffalo, has fought for their right to roam... and we are winning! We have Horse Butte, now we look to the Madison Valley, the Paradise Valley, and the Targhee Pass.
Join our efforts; become a Buffalo Guardian; a monthly donor, and ensure that America’s last wild bison roam free, restoring our grasslands and bringing new life for future generations.
