For almost 3 decades Buffalo Field Campaign has opened our field operations on November 15th...this year is no different!

Welcome back coordinators, volunteers and interns to our headquarters - a place to gather for the Buffalo - in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Field Patrol defined:
Our field patrol crews are on scientific, policy, supporter engagement, and transportation safety shifts for 4 - 6 hours at a time. Field patrol shifts are conducted from BFC field patrol vehicles and originate from headquarters in West Yellowstone, MT or from a field location in Gardiner, MT. During crew shift, interns are responsible for finding and assessing the demographics (i.e. herd size and biological assessments of herd structure) of Buffalo migrating within a native migratory corridor and to assist with transportation safety on roads and highways that block the natural, migratory path of Buffalo through road sign placement for traffic slowing at exact locations to continue natural, herd movement! Crew members also document the Buffalo migration and management plan actions through photography, film, and our BFC wildlife database. Field patrols are always run in crews of two or more with a crew leader within our Volunteer Program that allows interns to work in teams with new volunteers, crew peers, and returning volunteers, some of which bring the experience of 25+ years of field patrol experience through volunteering with crews since BFC began in 1997.

"Learning from and teaching over 7000 volunteers that have come to help BFC since 1997 has been both humbling and inspiring. Watching the Buffalo teaches us to understand that everyone is important, every individual has worth, and that united they can all work together for their survival."

~Mike Mease, BFC Co-founder & Campaign Coordinator
